C4 Ripped is a fully disclosed moderate-stim pre-workout for lean-energy training. It delivers 150mg caffeine, CarnoSyn® beta-alanine, and Capsimax® for focus, endurance support, and a cutting-phase feel.
Cellucor publishes test results from independent third-party labs. Svpplements links to the manufacturer’s data — we don’t test products ourselves.

C4 Ripped is creatine-free, so adding a standalone creatine monohydrate is the easiest way to improve long-term strength, power, and training performance. This also keeps your pre-workout and foundational performance support cleanly separated.
Take daily, any time; it does not need to be taken with C4 Ripped specifically
C4 Ripped has a more purpose-built cutting profile with Capsimax®, green coffee, carnitine, and ginseng.
C4 Ultimate is the stronger formula for advanced performance users who want more complete modern dosing.
ABE is generally more performance-forward, while C4 Ripped is more specialized for moderate-stim cut-phase use.
SuperHuman is far stronger on pump, focus, and category leadership; C4 Ripped wins only on simpler moderate-stim accessibility.

Cellucor C4 Ripped is a moderate-stim, fully disclosed pre-workout designed around a very specific use case: support training performance while also leaning into a cut-phase experience. This is not a max-pump formula, and it is not a high-stim exotic pre. Its strategy is simpler and more targeted: combine reliable energy, cognitive support, some high-intensity endurance support, and a small thermogenic layer in a formula that is approachable for everyday use.
The backbone starts with CarnoSyn® beta-alanine at 1,600mg. Beta-alanine is the rate-limiting precursor to carnosine, a dipeptide stored in muscle that buffers the hydrogen ions that accumulate during hard sets and repeated intervals. That matters most in high-intensity efforts lasting roughly 1 to 10 minutes. Research support here is strong, with multiple meta-analyses showing improved exercise capacity when muscle carnosine rises over time. The important honesty point: 1,600mg is below the classic 3,200-6,400mg daily clinical range, so one serving is not a full loading dose. You may feel the familiar tingling from CarnoSyn®, but the real performance payoff comes from consistent daily use and, ideally, additional beta-alanine from diet or stacking.
L-citrulline is included at 1,000mg. Citrulline works by converting to arginine in the kidneys, increasing nitric oxide production and supporting vasodilation and blood flow, while also participating in ammonia clearance through the urea cycle. At clinically studied performance doses, that usually means 6-8g. So while 1g contributes to the formula theme, it is clearly below the research-backed range for a true pump or endurance effect. You may notice a mild fullness boost, but this is not the reason to buy C4 Ripped.
For focus, Cellucor includes L-tyrosine at 500mg. Tyrosine is a precursor to dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine, making it especially useful when training under fatigue, stress, or calorie restriction. The literature is strongest when tyrosine is used to preserve cognition under acute stress, often at higher bodyweight-based doses, so 500mg is best viewed as supportive rather than aggressive. Paired with 150mg caffeine anhydrous, though, it helps produce a cleaner, more directed training mindset than caffeine alone.
L-carnitine tartrate is dosed at 500mg. LCLT supports fatty acid transport into mitochondria, helps buffer excess acetyl groups, and has strong evidence for recovery and reduced exercise-induced muscle damage, generally at 1-2g daily. At 500mg, this is below the most studied range, but it still aligns with the product’s cut-phase positioning and adds some metabolic and recovery intent.
The thermogenic layer is where C4 Ripped becomes more distinct. Green coffee bean extract at 200mg adds chlorogenic acid-rich support often associated with energy metabolism and body-composition formulas. Capsimax® cayenne extract at 50mg brings a trademarked, controlled-release capsaicin system designed to support thermogenesis without the harsh GI burn of raw capsaicin. Panax ginseng extract at 150mg rounds out the formula with an adaptogenic angle that can support perceived energy, resilience, and training drive.
The synergy is straightforward: caffeine and tyrosine sharpen output and focus; beta-alanine supports repeated-effort performance over time; Capsimax®, green coffee, and carnitine push the formula toward a cutting-friendly identity; ginseng helps smooth the experience with an adaptogenic component. Transparency is a real positive here—no proprietary blend, every dose disclosed, which is still better than much of the legacy pre-workout category.
What to expect: on day 1, moderate energy, improved alertness, light thermogenic warmth, and possibly beta-alanine tingles. After 2-4 weeks of consistent use, the most meaningful cumulative benefit is from gradual beta-alanine carnosine loading, with the formula functioning best as a daily-driver pre-workout for people prioritizing energy and cut-phase support over fully clinical pump dosing.
Beta-alanine is the rate-limiting precursor for intramuscular carnosine synthesis. As muscle carnosine rises, intracellular buffering capacity improves, allowing skeletal muscle to better tolerate hydrogen ion accumulation during high-intensity work. This is why beta-alanine is most consistently effective for efforts lasting roughly one to ten minutes. The key limitation is time course: benefits depend on saturation over repeated daily use, not just acute pre-workout dosing.
L-citrulline bypasses substantial first-pass metabolism and is converted to arginine in the kidneys, making it a more reliable way to raise circulating arginine than oral arginine itself. Higher arginine availability supports nitric oxide synthase activity and downstream vasodilation. Citrulline also participates in the urea cycle, helping handle ammonia accumulation during exercise. In sports nutrition, however, the practical dose question matters: most performance data clusters around 6-8g, well above the 1g used here.
Tyrosine serves as a substrate for catecholamine synthesis, including dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. Under acute stress, demanding exercise, sleep loss, or environmental strain, catecholamine demand increases and cognitive performance can decline. Supplemental tyrosine can help preserve mental flexibility and working memory under those conditions. That makes it less of a generic stimulant and more of a context-specific performance aid when stress is high.
L-carnitine tartrate supports transport of long-chain fatty acids into mitochondria for oxidation, but its sports nutrition relevance extends beyond fat metabolism. Research also points to benefits in reducing exercise-induced muscle damage, lowering ammonia accumulation, and supporting recovery-related processes after intense training. It may even influence androgen receptor density in muscle tissue in some contexts. The most studied sports doses, though, are typically higher than the 500mg used in this formula.
Capsaicin-containing ingredients are used in body-composition formulas because they can support thermogenesis and increase the energetic cost of maintaining body temperature. The challenge with raw capsaicin is tolerability, especially GI irritation. Capsimax® addresses this with a controlled-delivery beadlet approach meant to improve user experience while preserving thermogenic utility. In a pre-workout setting, this contributes more to heat and cut-phase feel than to direct strength or pump output.
